ROGER GILBERT-LECOMTE (1907-1943) MANUSCRIPT NOTEBOOK format pocket notebook in-12 (9,5 x 15cm), stapled, with black moleskine cover, blue interior, top left signature in ink: 'R. Lecomte'. 32 small squares leaves, 39 handwritten pages, poems and 'dreams', 2 pages of drawings and 8 blank leaves in the middle [1925-1926]. The first 15 leaves have been cut out. PRECIOUS AUTOGRAPHIC NOTEBOOK which was used for the edition of the complete Poetry of Roger Gilbert-Lecomte, established by Pierre Minet and Jean Bollery at Gallimard in 1977. Some of his most beautiful poems, Les dieux manchots for example (with about twenty corrections), belong to this notebook, designated in the Gallimard edition: Manuscrit petit carnet. Pierre Minet dates it to 1925. A small text, Après Entr'acte de Picabia. Dialogue dans le couloir, is dated Champs-Elysées 21-8-26. Roger Gilbert-Lecomte was then 18-19 years old, and all the strength of his poetic genius, which makes him a direct heir of Rimbaud and Lautréamont, was already there: the humor, 'the joy of living upside down' (P. Minet), the firm conviction that he was born to face all the limits named here 'the prenatal governance'. And yet only one collection of poems will appear during his lifetime: The life the death the emptiness and the wind, Cahiers libres 1933. None of the poems of this small notebook is taken again there.
