First French edition of this adaptation in French of the famous work of the American ornithologist "The Birds of America". "By interspersing descriptions more especially scientific, with scenes of manners taken on the fact, in the parts still with half-wildness of the vast territory of the Union, we wanted to compose a whole, or better perhaps a succession of readings of a varied and seizing interest, in which is joined to the true science the taste of the beautiful and the good " (pp.3-4). The ornithological descriptions are interspersed with scenes of pioneer life in Mississippi, Foride, Ohio, Kentucki... and reflections on American life.
