Conducted between 1911 and 1914 by Australian scientist Douglas Mawson, the famous Australian expedition explored and mapped an almost unexplored part of the Antarctic coast located in the south of Australia, between Cape Adare and Mount Gauss. This expedition is famous for the heroic survival and sacrifices made by the members of the three bases, including Mawson himself. The scientific reports, whose publication was complicated to set up, gather an exceptional and vast set of data; they relate to oceanography, cartography, geology, zoology, botany, meteorology, geomagnetism.

The Hélice lamp has a simple yet complex structure: the central shaft crosses the base and the upper lampshade without seeming to touch the sides of them, as if it were a black hole. The light diffuser is placed on the upper screen and very subtly illuminates the shaft, reminiscent in a way of a UFO. Marc Newson had his first solo exhibition when he was only 23 years old thanks to a grant from the Australian Crafts Council. Two years later he would create his iconic Lockheed Lounge, a chaise longue that is claimed to be the most expensive work by a living designer to be auctioned. His early success has led Newson to work with a wide range of clients including Louis Vuitton, Montblanc, Hermès, Nike, Dom Pérignon, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Ferrari. He was also creative director for Qantas Airways from 2005 to 2015 and was involved in the design of the Apple Watch. He has since held the role of special projects designer for Apple. In 2019, he founded the creative collective LoveFrom together with Sir Jonathan Ive. He is represented by Galerie kreo and is also the only industrial designer represented by Gagosian. His work is part of the permanent collections of more than 40 institutions worldwide.
