Letter to a colleague written from the capital of Benin: "I brought back a rather curious collection of curiosities from this country, they are ugly things in general as far as the layman is concerned, but for those who want to realize the various industries of religions in their primitive state (...) will find it interesting".
Édouard Foa (1862-1901) is famous for his long crossing of Africa, undertaken during 7 years, from 1891 to 1898, and which allowed him to make many topographic and ethnological discoveries.
