French dress, Louis XVI period, circa 1765-70. In pekin with a mint green satin background, stripes decorated with polychrome flowers, bubbled falbalas underlined by a cream silk chenille crest. Dress coat with pleats said Watteau in the back, rear sleeves in embroidered cotton muslin. Lining in taffeta with pink shaded stripes and brick buckram. Full petticoat lined with buckram to wear on large baskets. Chafarcani or Marseille Indian lining on both sides of the bodice. Dimensions: Coat: 150 cm (height) - Shoulder width: 24 cm - Petticoat: 80 cm high Condition: superb silk, probably from the Grande Fabrique de Lyon. Missing pagoda sleeves, restoration with embroidered cotton muslin half sleeves from the 19th century.
