PAIRE DE VASES

Japan, late 19th century Porcelain with turquoise glaze Decorated with cranes and vegetal motifs Height: 94 cm Kyoto-Awaji porcelain is known for its exceptional quality, elegance and finesse. This porcelain is considered one of the most refined forms of Japanese ceramics. The history of Kyoto-Awaji porcelain dates back to the 16th century, when the first craftsmen in Kyoto City began producing ceramics for local and international markets. Over the centuries, the technology of porcelain production has improved, and Kyoto-Awaji porcelain has become one of the most iconic symbols of Japanese ceramics. The characteristics of Kyoto-Awaji porcelain are its fineness, transparency and purity. The porcelain is made from kaolin, feldspar and clay sheets, which are mixed to produce a very fine paste. This paste is then spread in thin layers on molds and fired at high temperatures to produce a smooth, shiny surface.
