Two figurative wall tiles probably Berlin, 18th century, Terracotta, glazed white and painted with cobalt blue and manganese coloured hot fire paint, angel with heart and saying: "Mein Herz leidet viel Creutz und Schmertz", the other with peasant woman, milk cans and saying: "Ich wil vor das Thor lauffen da werd ich meine Milch verkauffen", age craquelure and minor flaking to the rim, wire wall mounts, dimensions 22 x 19 cm and 23 x 18 cm.

Artist information: German-EnglishEnglish landscape and architectural painter and illustrator (1881 Feldafing am Starnberger See - 1960 Feldafing), pupil of his father Edward Theodore Compton and the London School of Arts and Crafts, subsequently returned to Bavaria, travelled through Tyrol, Upper Italy, Germany and England, member of the Munich artists' cooperative, exhibited at the Glaspalast in Munich, worked for a time in Potsdam and Würzburg, active in Munich and Feldafing am Starnberger See, source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Bruckmann "Münchner Maler des 19./20th century", Dressler and Wikipedia.
