A Georgian Percussion Rifle, ca. 1850 The rifle with octagonal merging to round Damascus barrel, ending in a cannon-shaped muzzle with smooth bore. Wooden full stock with fine ‘Mother-of-Pearl’ and ebony inlaid, brass details, horn nose and butt cap. Smooth iron lockplate, trigger guard, cock and ramrod. The lockplate stamped with the British ‘standing lion with crown ’. Length: 135 cm. [III] NOTE Georgia was an important center of weaponry. Firearms produced in Georgia were high quality and were popular among their neighbours. Most weapons were made with recycled British army gun parts. SEE ALSO The Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia. This museum kept approximately 4000 entities of weapons and more than 1000 of them are firearms. The weapons that once belong to the Georgian Kings like Bakar, Archil, Erekle II, Solomon I, Solomon II and Giorgi XII are the most impressive in this collection.
