Rare French Cavalry Flintlock Pistol for Officers, M1777 by ‘Maubeuge’ Ca. 1779 - 1787. Single shot flintlock pistol with smooth walnut half stock and round barrel in Cal. 18mm. Brass lockbox signed ‘Maubeuge’, brass trigger guard, butt-cap and iron cock. Iron belthook and ramrod. Length: 32 cm. [II-] NOTE This first type of Model 1777 was produced at the armoury at Maubeuge and was first introduced in 1779 to replacing the Model 1763/1766. The pistol came with a belt hook, which was retained by a mounting screw under the bronze frame. Between 1779 and 1787, Maubeuge produced 7,500 pairs. These early first type of Model 1777 were also produced in Saint-Etienne (production: 14,454 pairs) and in Charleville (production: 15,342 pairs).
