SOUVENIRS. Portrait of General Joseph Brugère, black and white engraving representing General Brugère in full regalia in 1899 when he was governor of Paris, signed A. Renault, 1899, countersigned in the margin by the general, 58 X 42 cm, framed under glass. BRUGERE Joseph (1841-1918) Polytechnician and artilleryman, he was in Africa in 1865-1867, he participated in the war of 1870, Borny, Rezonville, St Privat, he was captured in the army of Metz, he escaped and continued the fight in the army of the Loire, Juranville, Maisières, Gien, then in the east, Villersexel, Héricourt. After the war he was attached to the military household of President Grévy, he commanded the artillery in Tunisia in 1881, became a brigadier general in 1887, a division general in 1890, and was appointed Governor of Paris in 1899. He was transferred to the reserves in 1906 and commanded a territorial division in 1914-18. He died on August 31, 1918.
