In the most famous creations of Henri Chapron, there are notably some presidential cars, creations on the basis of luxury cars, but also a whole line of transformations on the basis of the Citroën DS. Today, Henri Chapron is often associated with the Citroën brand, the coachbuilder was born quickly in the automotive history with bodies proposed on the Ford T in the 1920s. Then Henri Chapron broke through in his field and obtained numerous orders to dress the most beautiful chassis of the 1930s. After the Second World War, the majority of manufacturers switched to monocoque bodies, making it more difficult to work as a coachbuilder, and it was in the 1950s that the great names died out... except for Chapron, which was revived by the Citroën DS. Chapron presented a convertible based on the DS at the 1958 Paris Motor Show. And this creation is quickly noticed by its style and by the numerous equipments that it displays: large chrome strips, wheel covers... In spite of the constraints imposed by Citroën to reinforce the DS base and to keep the removable rear fenders, the result is convincing and five orders are registered during the show, a great performance for an artisanal body builder. The adventure was launched. With this success, Chapron studies a coupé version of the Citroën DS which will take the base of the Cabriolet, the DS Coach is presented in February 1959 and was quickly named "DS Coupé Le Paris". The roof of this coach takes again the paw of Chapron with a line already seen on other transformations of the coachbuilder with its panoramic rear window and its roof bulged on its back part. Then, in 1960, Chapron enlarged its range with a new roof with tighter lines, it is the DS Coupé Le Dandy which can be made with a lowered roof, an option often taken by the customer to give an even sportier look to the car. This coach ended its career in 1965. In March 1966 at the Geneva Motor Show, with a new coach called "Le Léman", Henri Chapron returned to a design similar to that of the first generation "Concorde" with its very low roof at the rear. Only 24 units of this coach were built between 1966 and 1972. The presented model is a 1st generation. It has been entirely restored by its current owner (bodywork, upholstery, original mechanics revised).
