Exciting reports of trips made during the reigns of Louis XIII and Louis XIV. After visiting most of Europe, J.B. Tavernier (1605-1689), one of the most famous French travelers, made six trips to Persia and India, where he amassed a considerable fortune from his trade in precious stones. The third volume contains the voyage to Japan and Tonkin, the observations on the French East India Company, the history of the conduct of the Dutch in Asia, and finally the new relation of the interior of the Serrail du grand seigneur. The illustration includes an engraved title showing Tavernier in an allegorical frame by J. Goerée, a portrait by Causé, 44 OUT OF TEXT PLATES, MOST OF WHICH ARE REPLACED AND 2 MAPS. The frontispiece is dated 1712 in Utrecht by G. Van de Water. The 3 volumes are rarely found untrimmed, as they came from the printing house. Repairs in the lower margin of 7 leaves, without missing text. A very good copy.
