[Travel - Navy]. BAUGY (Louis-Henri de). Journal of an expedition against the Iroquois in 1687. Paris, Leroux, 1883. In-8, fawn half-chagrin with corners, spine gilt, covers preserved (Garidel). FIRST EDITION. Diary written from papers belonging to Ernest Serrigny, a descendant of the Baugies, originally from Berry; it relates in detail the expedition led against the Iroquois, by the Marquis de Denonville in 1687, followed by the documents and letters giving the circumstances of the mission of which the Chevalier de Baugy was in charge, whose purpose was to monitor the actions of the explorer Cavelier de la Salle. The set contains interesting documents for the history of the French colony of Canada from 1682 to 1687. One of the few copies on JAPAN. Minor defects, otherwise a good copy in a binding signed by L. Garidel, bookbinder in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. (Chadenat, 3121).
