GUICCIARDINI (Lodovico). Description of all the Low Countries, otherwise called Lower Germania, or Lower Germany. Worn spines, corners and spine ends, spidermooring and missing leather. Second edition of the translation from Italian by François de Belleforest (the original dates from 1567), the first printed by Christophe Plantin, of this important chorographical work on the former Netherlands. The illustration consists of an allegorical frontispiece representing the Netherlands ("Belgica"), the engraved title with the coats of arms of the XVII Provinces on the verso, a portrait of François de France and 66 intaglio plates, 55 of which are double-page: maps, plans, views of regions, cities, abbeys, castles, fortresses, etc. Numerous paper restorations with missing parts, notably on the first few leaves.
