On the back, charcoal sketch of three horses in front of the portal of the Amiens cathedral. 35.4 x 25.4 cm Although Boldini's predilection for architecture is most apparent in his numerous and very relevant views of Venice, at the turn of the century he became fascinated with Romanesque and Gothic art, as did Helleu who exhibited interior views of the cathedrals of Chartres and Reims in 1892. During his travels, he lingered, equipped with his watercolorist's box, in front of the portal of Moissac or inside the cathedral of Bordeaux.
