Lemot was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1790 and received important commissions during the Revolution, notably for the bas-reliefs of the tribune of the Conseil des Cinq-cents (now the Assemblée Nationale), but also during the Empire, for the pediment of the colonnade of the Palais du Louvre, and during the Restoration, for the equestrian statues of Henri IV for the Pont Neuf or the one of Louis XIV, place Bellecour in Lyon. In 1805 he bought a property, the Garenne Lemot, which he transformed into a neo-Palladian villa, punctuating the park with antique statues and factories, thus recreating a corner of Italy in the middle of the Nantes countryside. A key figure in the world of publishing during the Enlightenment, Charles-Joseph Panckoucke was the official bookseller and publisher of the Royal Printing Office and the Royal Academy of Sciences. An intimate of the great philosophers, he published Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopedia. His bust was made in 1822 by his friend François Frédéric Lemot in the purest neo-classical style.
