The earliest datable seal with the ligature of O and U, with parallel side-hasts, dates from 1032 (Oikonomides, Dated DOC.Seals, 82, 81). - As grand chartular of the Genikon, Konstantinos was chancery chief of Logothetes tu Geniku, the minister of finance, responsible for tax revenues (Oikonomides, Listes, 313). - As Krites epi tu Hippodromu kai tu Belu, Konstantinos was judge of the two highest imperial courts of the capital, and also civil governor of the thema ton Armeniakon (Oikonomides, Listes 348 with note 339; the thema ton Armeniakon then included western Pontos (DOCDOC.Seals IV 54)). - The Mystographos does not appear in the Taktika until the Taktikon Eskurial, of 971/975, 271, 25, between the Hetaireiarches ton pezon , the commander of the regiment of guards on foot , and the Epi to Deeseon , the person in charge of petitions . The function of the Mystographos, the secret scribe , is unclear; it was in any case a juridical one and not that of a real secret councilor (cf. Oikonomides, Listes, 324f). Mystographos also appears on contemporaneous seals in a different order, e.g. in Iohannes Promundenos, protospatharios, mystographos, megas chartularios tu geniku logothesiu, krites epi tu hippodromu & ton Anatolikon (DOCDOC.Seals III 153, 86.27). - Possibly this Constantinos used earlier the scriptural seal with the legends [K(yri)e boethei t]o so d[ulo K]onstant(ino) b(asiliko) spath(ario) / [char]tul[ar]io tu genik(u) : Laurent II 177, 369 plate 14 (PMBZ 23799). - Perhaps a small scriptural seal with metrical legend belongs to the same man: Konstantinos, Dikaspolos, formerly Mystographos (Coll. Selçuk 332, 23 plate 43; dikaspolos was a four-syllable version of the word krites ).
