Description

BROCHURE Holding a very rare 2.5 dollars gold coin minted in 1915. Mounted in 18K yellow gold. Length: 6 cm. Gross weight : 8.30 cm. This coin showing on the face a Native American in profile wearing a feather headdress was issued at the beginning of the 20th century from 1908 to 1915 and then from 1926 to 1929 during the stock market crash. The reverse features a bald eagle, symbol of the United States of America, with the two national mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST". The issue of this gold dollar was stopped in 1929 when the stock market crash hit the country hard and the Great Depression followed; indeed, President Roosevelt forbade the minting of gold coins and the private holding of gold because the precious metal was then needed as a monetary reserve for the government. A large part of the gold coinage was confiscated and melted down. A large majority of the originals were lost, so this coin is one of the last "quarter eagles" of the United States. A yellow gold coin brooch.
