The Crucifixion Binding plate in gilded copper and champlevé enamel Limoges, Master of chiseled asters, circa 1190-1200 H.: 21cm - W.: 13 cm Upper plate of a gilt copper binding, chased, engraved and enamelled in champlevé, presenting Christ on the cross between the Virgin and Saint John, surmounted by two angels, on an ultramarine enamelled background strewn with chased or enamelled rosettes, underlined by two turquoise stripes, the cross enamelled in green, the suppedaneum strewn with white dots with a red center, within a wavy border in red-octahedral-white. The faces in classic riveted applique medals. A few enamel chips and accidents, the lower border is missing. This plate can be compared to the Seguin plate of the same subject in the Louvre (OA6173) as well as to the Christ in Glory plate from the Gillot collection sold by Christie's in 2008.
