It is illustrated with 4 watercolor maps (3 of which are folding) and 30/35 off-text plates (13 of which are folding); vignette on the title, 54 headbands, 56 lettering and 36 caps engraved by COCHIN, RIGAUD and TARDIEU. THE WORK REMARKABLE BY ITS AMPLEUR, ITS EDITORIAL AND ITS STYLE, begins at the year of Rome 163 and stops at the death of Louis XIII, in 1643. At the end of each volume are collected the ancient inscriptions, the diplomas, the charters and other documents serving as proofs to the text of the treaty. A GREAT EXAMPLE (despite the LACK of 5 plates) in a strictly uniform binding, an unusual condition since the fifth volume was published 15 years after the first four. ¶ Saffroy, II, 26377: "Famous and justly esteemed work" - Brunet, V, 1029: "One of the best particular histories of our provinces" - Cohen, 1011 - Rothschild, 2347.
