Description
Bateba Lobi statuette, Burkina Faso Wood H. 17 cm Statuette most certainly used for divination rites between mediums and spirits, in view of the thick patina on the top of the skull attesting to past anointings received. The face stretches to a pointed chin and has drooping eyes in relief, giving the statuette a desolate look. The body is represented by an imposing belly plunging towards the ground, taking up the acute shape of the face, and by small legs.
