Zay/Gurage shield, Ethiopia Leather Late 19th century, early 20th century D. 66 cm Provenance: Stefan Domoney, Old Arts, London Acquired from the latter by the current owner, French private collection Spherical shield, with slightly curved edges, whose domed top is crossed by a median rib. On the whole of the irregular surface appear randomly small circles in light relief as if the shield was "embossed", indicating a successful stylistic research on the part of its creator.
