*Statuette, Bembe, Democratic Republic of Congo Wood, earthenware H. 18,5 cm Provenance: Swiss private collection To the hieratic pose, the straight body, the head with the chin raised seeming to probe the powers of the sky, answers the power signified by the broad shoulders, the sex and the oversized feet, the latter sculpted in a fan shape, the whole paradoxically conferring to this miniature a superb monumentality. The eyes set in earthenware, the bust sublimated by a succession of geometric patterns in champlevé. Lot in temporary importation and subject to a fee of 5.5% to be paid by the buyer in addition to the selling expenses and the hammer price.
