Description
*Ngbaka statuette, Democratic Republic of Congo Wood H. 19 cm Provenance : Private collection, Switzerland Anthropomorphic statuette with schematic volumes. The minimalism of the composition is rendered by the absence of any ornamentation, and by the extreme purity given to the treatment of the face, of which only a small mouth with raised corners is sketched. The head is placed directly on the drooping shoulders, extended by small atrophied arms, stuck to the cylindrical abdomen. The pelvis is strongly marked; the straight legs take the form of a fork. This lot is temporarily imported and is subject to a 5.5% fee payable by the buyer in addition to the sale costs and the auction price.
