Description
The accession to the throne of Ferdinand VI and Maria Barbara of Portugal, circa 1746 Rare folded fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English, and painted with gouache of a royal wedding. In the center, the bride and groom stand before two ceremonial seats. He wears a blue suit, and the cord of the order of the Holy Spirit. She is wearing a dress with flowers and a blue coat lined with ermine. She presents her fan with the head upwards, sign of her quality. They are surmounted by Renommée holding her trumpets. On either side, members of the court and soldiers. The coats of arms represented at their feet, surmounted by a royal crown, allow them to be identified. It celebrates the accession to the Spanish throne of Maria Barbara of Portugal (1711-1758) and Ferdinand VI, known as The Wise One (1713-1759) in 1746. The composition is based on the work of Jacopo Amigoni (1682-1752), engraved by C.J. Flipart (1721-1797), painter and engraver of the king. The artists Farinelli and Scarlatti represented in the original work are excluded. The reverse side is painted with roses and tulips. Mounted in pierced ivory, carved, engraved with characters of Chinese inspiration, columns, vases and flowers. On a blue background, cartels are painted with lace in trompe-l'oeil, like the lower part of the throat.
