Happiness of the Bride, ca. 1740 Folded fan, double sheet of wallpaper of two engaged couples advancing to the altar where Hymen, god of marriage, awaits them. A garden in the background hosts the festivities. On the left, a man wears the pilgrim's coat decorated with shells of the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela. Reverse painted with bowlers in front of a thatched cottage. White mother-of-pearl frame pierced, carved, engraved and burgled with gallants among rich floral arabesques.
