Description

Set of two Louis XVI armchairs, second half of the 18th century, and a matching footrest of later period, mid-20th century. Walnut wood. Salmon-coloured velvet upholstery with decoration. It shows wear and tear due to use and the passage of time. Measurements: 98 x 67 x 60 cm (armchairs); 47 x 65 x 56 cm (footrest). Set of two armchairs from the reign of Louis XVI; the footrest is later, from the 20th century. The structure of the armchairs is elegant and stylised, with inverted truncated conical column legs, rosettes on the knees and recessed arms. The shape of the backrests, rounded oval, is also typical of the Louis XVI chair. All the parts that make up the structure are subtly moulded and the crest is carved. This is a pair of armchairs characterised by the lightness and classical architectural details typical of French court furniture from the second half of the 18th century, which are accompanied by a footrest from a later period (20th century).
