Gustavian style extending table. Sweden, first half of the 19th century. Carved and painted wood, gilt details. The top extends to 200 cm. Measurements: 80 x 155 x 116 cm (with table top closed). Length 43 cm. Table of Gustavian style and Swedish manufacture. In wood painted in different shades of grey and gilded rosettes carved at the waist. It stands on stipe legs, with grooves and mouldings alternating with vegetal pods. The envelope is circular in its closed form and oval in its extensible form. The Gustavian style was characterised by an original synthesis of Greco-Roman, Egyptian and Louis XVI elements, freely recreated and simplified with modern intent.
