Alexandre IACOVLEFF (1887-1938) On the river at Hué Oil on paper pasted on cardboard. Signed in Latin and dated lower right AIacovleff/ 1932. 37.2 x 55.3 cm Verso, on the cardboard, handwritten inscriptions in pencil lower left: Sur le fleuve/ à Hué/ Annam/ 1932, and other inscriptions in pencil and red chalk. After the success of the Croisière Noire, Alexandre Iacovleff, once again official painter of the Croisière Jaune (1931-1932), travels throughout Asia, from Lebanon to China. The return leg of this epic journey took in Annam (now Vietnam). The artist was particularly charmed by the city of Hué, the former imperial capital, through which the "Perfume River" flows. Here, he produced a number of serene compositions depicting daily life on the river and in the rice fields, as seen in this lovely oil painting. A certificate of authenticity from Mme Caroline Haardt de La Baume, an expert in the work of Alexandre Iacovleff, will be given to the buyer. This lot will be included in the Alexandre Iacovleff catalog raisonné currently in preparation.

MORABITO - Small evening clutch in black satin with gold metal ring. Fairly good condition. 13.5x17cm and 1 clutch bag in heavy midnight-blue canvas. As is (tears, peeling). 15.5x24cm. Sold as is.

A WOOD NETSUKE OF A RECUMBENT BOAR A WOOD NETSUKE OF A RECUMBENT BOAR Signed Tomoyuki 友之 Japan, Edo (Tokyo), 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Carved as a recumbent boar with its limbs tucked snug underneath the body forming a compact composition. The animal with its ears laid back, eyes inlaid in dark horn, and fur neatly incised. The gently upturned snout lowered as it sniffs the ground curiously, its sharp incisors poking through the mouth. Asymmetrical himotoshi to the underside and signed TOMOYUKI. LENGTH 3.9 cm Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and a restoration to one eye. Provenance: From the private collection of Armand Basi. A copy of the collector’s notes, no. 717, accompanies this lot. Armand Basi (1924-2009) was a Spanish businessman and fashion designer, co-founder of the fashion firm bearing his name. He was a Japanese art enthusiast and amassed a large collection of netsuke in his lifetime. In 1948, along with his brother Josep, Armand Basi founded a small knitting company inspired by their mother Mercé Sabi's knitted sweaters. By the end of the 1950s the business had expanded into a large textiles company, opening a factory on Balcells Street in Barcelona in 1958. In 1961–62, the Basis signed an exclusive contract with Lacoste to manufacture and distribute Lacoste products in Spain. In 1986, Basi launched his eponymous fashion brand, which produced accessories, perfume, jewelry and watches, as well as clothing in more than 400 stores across Spain, Europe, North America and Asia.
