VERNET (Carle).

Campaigns of the French under the Consulate and the Empire. Paris, Librairie rue Visconti, s.d. [circa 1850]. In-folio, burgundy percaline, framed with bold cold filets, title and large imperial coat of arms gilt on the first plate, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges (Ch. Magnier). Album including a title printed in red and black, a table leaf, a portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte accompanied by a facsimile of his signature, placed in frontispiece, 5 plates containing 100 portraits of marshals, generals and other illustrious persons of the time, engraved by Bovinet after Vaultier, and 52 plates representing great battles engraved by Duplessi-Bertaux, Malherbe, Couché fils, Pigeot, Dequevauvillers, etc., after Carle Vernet and Swebach mainly. A complete copy, in the publisher's binding, which is in poor condition, the spine detached from the body of the work. The caption of the plate depicting the battle of Montebello and Casteggio has been partly cut by the binder's knife, and tear without missing on the upper right edge.
