Garnier, 1735. 2 volumes in-4, blond calf, triple gilt fillet, coat of arms in the center, spine decorated, red titles and greefs, interior roulette, red edges (Binding of the time). First edition. Beautiful portrait of Turenne, engraved by Larmessin after Meissonier, large fleuron with Turenne's arms on the titles, 7 large headpieces and 4 culs-de-lampe by Bonnard engraved by Scotin, and 13 double-page battle plans. Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, viscount of Turenne (1611-1675), marshal of France, in the service of Louis XIII and then of Louis XIV, was one of the greatest French men of war. He was killed by a cannonball at the battle of Sasbach. Copy in blond calf with undetermined arms. Handwritten ex-dono on the title of volume I, Bocquet de Chantrene, and contemporary mention Ex dono comitis d'Evreux. Yellowed quires in volume I, staining to a few leaves, soiling to two leaves in volume II (pp. LXXIV and LXXV of the Memoirs of the Duke of Yorck). Small defects to the headpieces, scuffing on one cover.
