Beautiful portrait of Turenne, engraved by Larmessin after Meissonier, large fleuron with Turenne's arms on the titles, 7 large headpieces and 4 culs-de-lampe by Bonnard engraved by Scotin, and 13 double-page battle plans. Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, viscount of Turenne (1611-1675), marshal of France, in the service of Louis XIII and then of Louis XIV, was one of the greatest French men of war. He was killed by a cannonball at the battle of Sasbach. Copy in blond calf with undetermined arms. Handwritten ex-dono on the title of volume I, Bocquet de Chantrene, and contemporary mention Ex dono comitis d'Evreux. Yellowed quires in volume I, staining to a few leaves, soiling to two leaves in volume II (pp. LXXIV and LXXV of the Memoirs of the Duke of Yorck). Small defects to the headpieces, scuffing on one cover.
