The treaty of the Pyrenees was signed on November 7, 1659 on the island of the Pheasants and put an end to the war between France and Spain that started in 1635 during the Thirty Years War. On this occasion, France recovered the county of Roussillon and part of Cerdanya, and the Pyrenees Mountains were established as the border between the two kingdoms (article XLII). AGREABLE EXAMPLE FROM THE LIBRARY OF LOUIS-FRANÇOIS DE MONTEYNARD (1713-1791), secretary of state for war from 1771 to 1774, with his engraved armorial bookplate.
