Raja on parade, North India, Rajasthan, Mewar, ca. 1765 Pigments and gold on paper depicting a raja on horseback smoking the huqqa from the top of his mount and holding a bow in the hand that holds the reins. Around him, many servants carrying weapons, pieces of crockery, birdcage or parade sticks. In the distance, a landscape of hills built with small monuments and animated with hunting scenes. Painting surrounded by a red frame. Dim. of the painting : 39,2 x 26,8 cm Slight jumps in polychromy, a small tear on the upper edge, leaf that seems to have been enlarged. Provenance: - Christie's New York, March 23, 2010, lot 191. - Probably Royal Mewar Collection.
