Portrait of Raja Bakhat Singh, North India, Rajasthan, Marwar, Jodhpur, ca. 1750 Pigments and gold on paper depicting the raja cross-legged on a terrace with a flower bed, sheltered by a canopy. Leaning on cushions, he is turned to the right, dressed in apple green with mauve pants with floral decoration, his talwar on the ground. Behind him, three followers hold a talwar, a rondache and a chauri fly swatter to fan him. Inscription "Jodhpur" in nagari in purple ink above the canopy. Size of the painting : 30,3 x 22,3 cm Some polychromy jumps. Provenance: - Christie's London, October 23, 2007, lot 323. Bakhat Singh was a raja of the Rathore rajput clan and ruled the state of Marwar from 1751 to 1752.
