Shi'a prayer book, Iran qâjâr, 19th century Manuscript on paper with nine lines of text per page in Arabic in naskh calligraphy in black ink on a gold background. Frontispiece illuminated with a sarlow painted in gold and in polychrome of lambrequins decorated with floral scrolls, the margins decorated in double-page of floral friezes. Cartouches illuminated in gold and polychrome at the beginning of each section. The text contains a number of prayers from Shi'a Islam, including the Invocation of the Turning (Du'aa al-'Adila) and the Du'aa Kumayl ibn Ziyad. Stamped twice with a seal in black ink indicating "Muzaffar al-Sultana 1316 AH / 1898". Bound in brown morocco with stamped decoration of a frieze of esses on the border. Size of the binding : 15,9 x 9,5 cm Restorations, later bound, first page pastedown, comments added in ink, some stains, creases, light tears and wormholes.
