Ornamental door top in wood and gilded stucco with revolutionary attributes, featuring a lictor beam topped by a Phrygian cap and surrounded by multiple flags, inscribed at the top "83 départ(ement)s". Circa 1790. H. 25,5 x L. 75 cm. History The exact number of 83 departments, with their delimitations, was fixed by the decrees of January 15 and February 26, 1790. France being still a constitutional monarchy, this new organization of France in 83 departments was ratified by Letters Patent of Louis XVI, on March 4, 1790.
