Description

RUSSIA Large vase with three handles out of vermeil 88 zolotniks (916 thousandths), of baluster form resting on a round base, with enamelled polychrome decoration cloisonné in the pastel colors, the body with decoration pushed back of godrons representing enamelled white swans swimming, the collar with decoration of a monogram intertwined "JGW" in a circle of foliage and foliage on cream bottom. Good general condition, slight damages and restorations Moscow, 1899-1908. Goldsmith : Pavel OVCHINNIKOV with mark of Supplier of the Russian Imperial Court. Height : 18,5 cm. Width: 15 cm. Diameter inside the neck : 9,5 cm. Gross weight : 767,25 g. Related works Most of the known similar cloisonné enamelled vases were made by Feodor Rückert and then sold by Ovchinnikov. Our example bears only Ovchinnikov's hallmark, although it may have been enameled by Rückert. A similar vase is reproduced in A. von Solodkoff, Russian Silverware from the 17th to the 19th Century, Office du Livre, Editions Vilo, Paris, 1981,, fig. 66, p. 59. Condition report - A lack of enamel on the top of one of the handles. - Missing enamel on one of the swans. - Oxidized gilt. - Presence of the hallmarks only under the base. - Restoration to the enamel at the swan accident. - Restoration to the enamel at a lower left corner of one of the swans. - Restoration to the enamel a scroll under one of the handles.
