DANTE ALIGHIERI (1265-1321) - Dante col sito, et forma dell’Inferno. Venice: Aldo Manuzio, 1515. Second Aldine edition of Dante, second issue with the double stroke in the word of the title "De=scriptione" in first title. The woodcut illustrations first appeared in the Giunta octavo edition of 1506. This edition instead reflects the new topographical interest for Dante while the title of the previous Aldine, Le terze rime, emphasized its poetic aspects. The three renowned woodcuts of Hell and Purgatory, designed by Trifone Gabriele, a friend of Bembo, were then copied in the miniature editions of Dante by Paganino. 8vo (160 x 95mm). Aldine devices on the two titles and at colophon, the first with the name Aldo and the other two with Aldus, a double-page woodcut depicting Hell, a double-page classification of sins in Hell and a full-page classification of sins in Purgatory (the first 10 leaves, e2, m5 and the final gathering repaired at the lower margin, including the plates at the end that suffer a small loss of the engraving sometimes restored by hand and one also repaired at the outer margin, two other leaves of the final gathering lightly shorter, some light dampstaining and foxing, small single wormhole throughout sometimes touching a letter, without blank H7). Questa versione riflette invece il nuovo interesse topografico per Dante mentre il titolo della precedente Aldina, Le terze rime, ne sottolineava gli aspetti poetici. Le tre celebri xilografie dell'Inferno e del Purgatorio, ideate da Trifone Gabriele, amico del Bembo, furono copiate per le edizioni in miniatura di Dante del Paganino. 8vo (160 x 95mm). Marche tipografiche ai due frontespizi e al colophon, la prima con il nome Aldo e le altre due con Aldus, una xilografia raffigurante l'Inferno a doppia pagina, una classificazione dei peccati nell'Inferno a doppia pagina e una classificazione dei peccati nel Purgatorio a piena pagina (le prime 10 carte, e2, m5 e l'ultimo fascicolo riparati al margine inferiore incluse le tavole legate in fine che subiscono una piccola perdita della xilografia in due casi reintegrata a mano e una riparazione anche al margine esterno, altre due pagine dell'ultimo fascicolo più corte, lieve alone e fioriture ai margini di alcune carte, piccolo singolo forellino di tarlo che attraversa molte pagine toccandone talvolta una lettera, senza bianca H7). Legatura moderna in carta che riutilizza una pagina anticamente manoscritta, tagli marmorizzati.
