BELGIUM. François-Antoine de Méan de BEAURIEUX (1756-1831), last prince-bishop of Liège. Autograph letter signed to Mgr Jérôme Champion de Cicé (1735-1810), former archbishop of Bordeaux, in exile. 2 pp. in-4. Liege, May 21, 1794. He replies to Champion de Cicé's request to come and settle in the country of Liège. "The knowledge that the bishop of Chartres gave me of the desire that you had, Monseigneur, to come to establish you in this country, is the only title which authorized me to propose to you for this purpose the house of the Dean of the Collegiate church of Vizé. I feel perfectly well, Monsignor, and not without regret, how much this establishment is below your birth and your rank, but I count on your indulgence []. If I can succeed in procuring for you, Monsignor, some relief from the evils which you share with the Church of France by the terrible persecution which it is undergoing [] ".
