Charles-Paul LANDON (1760-1823), painter and art historian, painter of the cabinet of the Duke of Berry, curator of the Louvre Museum. Autograph letter signed to M. Nézot. 1 p. ½ in-4, headed "Annales du Musée et de l'École moderne des Beaux-arts". Paris, November 7, 1807. Address on the back. On the translation and publication of the Antiquities of Athens by J. Stuart and N. Revett, published by Landon at Didot in 1808. "I accept for the price of two hundred and twenty pounds that you have fixed yourself, the translation of the 1st vol. of the Antiquities of Athens by Stuart which you want to take care of. I beg you to take all the care and precision possible []". He puts the volume at his disposal, asks him to carry out the work with celerity, and specifies to him the way in which he must present the things, by separate notebooks. "As each part is completed, I will ask that it be handed over to me, and we will meet to compare it with the original. We will have the advice of a man of letters and an artist []". [The Annals of the Museum and the Modern School of Fine Arts, appeared in 17 volumes, from 1801 to 1809, with 1275 engraved plates].
