Description

François Pompon (1855-1933) " The rooster " Very beautiful and rare edition in bronze with a dark brown patina with slate highlights, from the artist's lifetime. Lost wax of great quality by C. Valsuani, after the original plaster of the years 1924/1925, model with very fine terrace. Very beautiful chasing. Purchased on October 24, 1929 at the Art Gallery A. Poyet, 10 rue de l'Hôtel de Ville (Palais St Pierre) in Lyon, which had a limited contract with François Pompon for about twenty pieces. (Original invoice in the name of the current owner family) This rooster bears the N° 4 edition, stamped on the terrace, above the artist's signature. Signed in wax, by the artist, on the terrace at the back of the left leg : " Pompon ", followed by the founder's stamp. Height : 24.5 cm Length : 18.4 cm Width : 10.3 cm We thank Mrs Liliane Colas who confirmed the authenticity of this work and gave some additional indications.
