Foreign Orders & Decorations - Russia / Tsarist Empire : Russia: Important early order necklace of the Order of St. Andrew by Immanuel (Emanuel) Pannasch, dated 1831. The order collans gold and enamel. The 23-piece necklace consists of 9 links with the Russian double eagle, 7 links with the crowned cipher Tsar Paul I and 7 links with the St. Andrew cross and the letters "SAPR" (Sanctus Andreas Patronus Russiae). Especially the Russian eagles finely chased, the figure of St. George separately applied to the escutcheons executed in translucent red enamel. All chain links in the unsurpassable fine jeweler's quality Immanuel (Emanuel) Pannasch from Saint Petersburg (1773-1836). The goldsmith's workmanship in the hollow-stamped form typical of Pannasch. The individual chain links with master's mark "IP" for Immanuel Pannasch on the reverse, the anchor - city mark of Saint Petersburg and the year mark "1831". Front side on various chain and connecting links hallmarked with city mark of St. Petersburg. Minor wear-related enamel chips in a few places but overall in excellent condition. A necklace dated 1828 of nearly identical design owned by the 6th Duke of Devonshire is on display at Chatsworth Castle. Another example, dated 1835, was sold at auction by Hess in Lucerne in 1968, from there it entered the collection of the legendary Paul Sandars and was sold as part of this collection at Sotheby's in Geneva in 1991. Dott. Antonio Spada illustrates another copy in the magnificent work Onori e Glorie, vol. II, pp. 176-177. Order collans of extraordinary importance and rarity of which there are hardly any copies outside Russia in private hands. Condition: 1-2
