DIM (MODERN INTERIOR DESIGN) - RENÉ JOUBERT (1885-1931) & PHILIPPE PETIT (1885-1945) Ambony burl, stingray and nickel-plated metal, circa 1928, very probably unique piece Exceptional modernist bed made of Amboine burl veneer. The headboard, with a concave part in the center, hosts two adjoining bedside tables, each one receiving a niche entirely lined with original stingray tiles, a shutter and a retractable light arm in nickel-plated metal, a drawer, a pull; the square draw knobs are in sculpted ivory. The foot is enriched, in the center, with a truncated trapezoid section. The head, the long sides and the feet rest on a base in doucine adorned with nickel-plated metal. Condition of use, minor cracks in the veneer, accidents and scattered damages, oxidation of the nickel-plated parts. Overall : Height : 100 cm - Length : 291 cm - Width : 215 cm Bibliography and related works: Originally, this bed was accompanied by a pedestal table in Amboine burr veneer, the top sheathed in shagreen, of which a lacquered variant is reproduced on page 190 of the May 1928 issue of Mobilier et Décoration in an article titled Ensembles and furniture by René Joubert and Oh.
