RELIGIOUS BOOK. ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT. MISSEL. S.l., 1940. In-16, red jansenist chagrin, spine with 5 nerves, gilt head (later binding). Beautiful illuminated manuscript dated April 7, 1940 on one leaf. It contains 44 unnumbered leaves including a frontispiece depicting the Virgin Mary carrying the infant Jesus with an altar and flower vases, a title Petit Missel with a chalice in a frame and 42 leaves of prayers written in black ink, mainly in Gothic script. The text leaves are contained within spaces ruled in black ink and are all decorated on the outside with color and gold illuminations. These illuminations are mainly floral, red, blue, green, yellow, purple, mauve, gray with scrolled stems, acanthus leaves and gold leaves. One finds on 6 sheets, 4 dragons and 2 chalices, which come to enrich the margins. Finally the text is decorated with 49 richly composed lettering. This anonymous manuscript is remarkable of quality. The execution is perfect, the colors of a great freshness are impeccably posed and the gold comes to raise perfectly the compositions.
