First edition of the C edition, known as "à la roue dentée". A copy absolutely in accordance with Max Brun's description. This one indicates the lightning success of the novel. On March 16, 1782, Choderlos de Laclos signs a contract with the publisher Durand Neveu for the printing of 2.000 copies of his manuscript Les Liaisons dangereuses. And on April 21, 1782, the author consents to the publication of a second edition Under the date of 1782, appear at least 16 different editions; some are legitimate, the others counterfeits. Max Brun points out that editions A, B and C are very similar and that from edition D onwards, the differences are much more noticeable. A fine copy in a strictly contemporary binding. Damage to a lower cover, 3 corners worn and a small loss in the side margin of one leaf due to the initial size of the sheet.
