HISTORIAN AND GEOGRAPHER Set of 10 documents. Autograph letters signed and autograph manuscripts. About 49 pp. various format (in-folio to in-8). MASSON Frédéric (1848-1923) autograph letter signed, Paris, December 14. 3 pp. 1/2 in-8. He evokes his works and his researches which enthuse him. He hopes to consult new documents all his life and to work to draw the truth from them; RECLUS Onésime (1837-1916) 2 long articles accompanied by their explanatory mail and 5 autograph letters signed, Sainte-Foy, le Canet and (s.l.), together written from May 20 [18]89 to May 12, 1916 and (s.d). 46 pp. in-4 and in-folio. Very interesting set including a long article of 20 pp. on Portugal accompanied by the letter introducing it, a second article entitled "Rücksichtlosigkeit" dealing with Germany accompanied by a letter. The article on Portugal is divided into 13 chapters: Name, situation, various regions etc. "Situation. Portugal occupies, along the Atlantic Ocean, the coastal slope of the Iberian Peninsula, to the west of this great high plateau. It has the mouths and lower valleys of four Spanish rivers: Minho (Miño), Douro (Ducro), Tejo (Tajo) and Guadiana. [] ". Then come 5 letters on various subjects, as in October 1899 on "the expansion of Languages", he writes "Man to be cursed for having misplaced the note on the expansion of languages, which had cost me deep calculations. For the matter is sticky, and here and there indeterminate: because millions of men, Germans for example in the United States, Italians in Argentina and Brazil, are floating between two idioms and lost for the mother tongue [].
