Inspired by the work of Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud, his canvases, the fruit of a reflection on the body and flesh, disturb us with their deformed presence but imbued with an overwhelming sensitivity. A self-taught artist, he first exhibited at the Espace Confluence in Paris in 1990. His international success is confirmed by his presence at cultural events and exhibitions all over the world, notably in Singapore, Moscow, London and Taiwan. Since 2010, Philippe PASQUA has been exhibiting his work permanently at Galerie The Storage in Saint-Ouen l'Aumône. NOTICE Philippe PASQUA doesn't hesitate to depict trans-identity, Down's syndrome and all those on the margins of society. Painting seems to be his preferred medium: the multiple layers reflect the violence of our times and contrast with the vulnerable, fragile subjects. Our work depicts this antinomy: a face whose brown and red tones render it almost deformed and swollen. It's reminiscent of Francis Bacon's often tortured portraits, which explore the darker aspects of the human condition through raw, expressive depictions of the human body. From the late 1990s onwards, he began to create palimpsests, combining silkscreen, printing and painting techniques. Our work presents all this pictorial complexity: oil is mixed with gouache on a print laminated to canvas, creating a play of skin textures that best reflect the imperfections of human nature.
