Mahachakra Vajrapani, Tibet, c. 12th century H. 25.4 cm. Copper alloy, solid cast Mahachakra Vajrapani is a tantric form of the Bodhisattva Vajrapani. He stands in the right-split posture, has three heads and six arms. The upper right hand holds a vajra, the middle right hand makes the gesture of threat The two lower hands hold a snake which he devours. His bracelets, belt and earrings are snakes. His face is frightening, eyes bulging, teeth visible, hair bristling and covered with red pigments. Provenance : Parisian collection.
