Durga, Bihar, India, Pala-Sena dynasty, 10th-11th century H. 61.5 cm. Black stone The warrior goddess is seated on a double lotus that shelters her vehicle the lion. Her four left arms hold the bow, trident, shield and lotus. She is adorned with a necklace, circular earrings, bracelets and a three-part tiara. She wears a high layered bun, she is dressed in a dhoti with incised patterns. Provenance: Acquired during the 1980s from the Mrs. Shirley Day Collection, London
