Description
Bhimsen, Nepal, 19th century H. 45 cm. Copper alloy Bhimsen is standing with his right leg bent. His face has a fierce expression, he wears a tiara, bracelets and snakes in place of earrings. He is dressed in a cuirass and a long skirt, with a waving scarf on his shoulders. His right hand holds a club and his left hand makes the gesture of threat. Rarely represented, he is in Nepal generally associated or confused with Bhairava, he guards and protects the sanctuaries dedicated to Shiva.
